TRESHNISH COTTAGES: SHEILING, SHIAN, DUILL AND THE STUDIO The 4 Treshnish cottages (Studio, Sheiling, Shian and Duill) change over on Fridays. Guests are invited to arrive after 5pm on the Friday afternoon at the beginning of their holiday and must depart on the Friday morning by 10am at the end of their holiday. An exciting Renewables project took place during the winter of 2008-2009 - we installed a District Heating Scheme heated by a 70 kW Froeling Woodchip Boiler. All the heating and hot water needs for the 4 Treshnish Cottages, as well as the Farmhouse, the office and Laundry are now provided by zero carbon wood chip harvested from Mull forests, chipped and processed within 15 miles of Treshnish. This not only benefits the environment but the local economy as well! Sheiling
The entrance porch leads into the delightful open plan kitchen/living room. Granite worktops, ceramic hob cooker, dishwasher and fridge/freezer make this a very well equipped kitchen area - with small farmhouse table and chairs beside a decorative antique dresser (housing books, CD selection and games). At the other end of the living room between the two windows – one with a westerly view over the old ‘stack yard’ and the other looking over the stone garden wall towards the sea – is the comfortable sitting area tastefully furnished with sofa, armchair, little tables and an antique Shetland spinning wheel similar to those used by the women who lived in this dwelling hundreds of years ago.
There is a small gravel patio and grassy lawn with garden furniture.
Shian and Duill This pair of attractive detached cottages are situated 50 yards beyond the traditional stone farm steading, surrounded by wide open fields which lead down to the shore. Their elevated position affords them glorious views out to sea and over the isles of Coll and Rum beyond. Shian and Duill share an enclosed grassy garden and washing line. These cottages were originally farm workers cottages and are graded *** by VisitScotland. They both have thermostatically controlled radiators throughout with a wood burning stove in the living room. They have recently been renovated and fully re-decorated with some interesting paintings and pictures. There is no TV reception. . SHIAN: Sleeps 4
The double bedroom enjoys a king size bed and overlooks wide sea views. There is an additional small twin bedded room with views up on to the hill. Both bedrooms have new reclaimed beech Junckers flooring and bedside sheepskin rugs produced on the Isle of Skye. The freshly decorated living-room, with 4 person dining area, forms the heart of the cottage with its welcoming wood burning stove, comfortable armchairs and sofa, small library, some games, radio/CD and wonderful sea views. The fully equipped kitchen with new ceramic tiled floor includes a fridge/freezer, ceramic hob cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. The bathroom (bath, W.C., basin) also has newly tiled flooring. All rooms lead off a small central hall with new reclaimed beech Junckers flooring.
DUILL: Sleeps 2+1 The double bedroom has a king size bed with views out to Calaich Point over the waters of Calgary Bay. There is an additional bright but tiny single bedroom, ideal for a child – with a full sized adult single bed. Both bedrooms have reclaimed beech Junckers flooring with bedside rugs made on the Isle of Skye. The freshly decorated living-room, with 3 person dining area and welcoming wood burning stove, has comfortable seating, a selection of books, a radio and fabulous sea views. The fully equipped kitchenette includes a fridge with small freezerbox and an electric cooker as well as a microwave. The kitchen window is a perfect vantage point for looking at the birdlife attracted to the restored pond or lochan just beyond the garden fence. The bathroom (bath, W.C., basin), like all the other rooms, leads off a small central hall.

TThis property is a conversion of the Dairy and a Byre, situated on the west corner of the farm square, designed by an architect specialising in building conservation and restoration. We have tried to preserve the external appearance of the Studio as a traditional farm steading whilst creating a spacious interior of unique character. Each room has high coombed ceilings, which give an airy feel. Large square Veluxes in the sitting room and main bedroom create plenty of passive solar gain when the sun is shining! The Studio has full central heating, run off the woodchip boiler, and is eclectically decorated with a mixture of antique and modern furniture and paintings. |

The entrance hall (with adjoining shower-room, W.C., basin and separate utility room) opens into the spacious sitting room. This large living area has one view to the north across the farmyard and owners garden to the sea and Calgary Point. Glazed doors on the hall and entrance add a westerly aspect, and the Veluxes in the high coombed ceiling give southerly light. It is furnished with comfortable sofas, armchairs and an antique dresser. Two single box beds in the west wall provide an alternative to a sofa bed (for the +2). An antique dresser houses the CD player, selection of CDs, books and games. There is also a TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs. The floor is red pine with rugs. |

The main bedroom is accessed from the sitting room and has a fabulous 7' square bed made from reclaimed timber by a local craftsman. The large Velux skylight set into the coombed ceiling floods the room with light and gives the room its relaxing view of the sky – at night you can lie in bed watching the stars! An antique marble washstand works as a dressing table, and there is ample hanging space in the wardrobe. This room has a red pine floor with rugs. |

The kitchen/dining room affords outstanding views out to the Point and to the sea from its small sunroom. From these window seats you can catch the best sunsets all year round - over the old grass ‘stack yard’ and the owners’ kitchen garden. The kitchen itself is well equipped with a gas stove (electric fan oven), fridge freezer, microwave, food processor, dishwasher, dining table and chairs. A separate cupboard houses a washing machine (and there is a shared tumble drier in the communal Laundry). There is a clothes airer in the utility room. The bathroom is next door to the kitchen and has bath, W.C. and basin. It has a maple floor. There is a small grassy garden with colourful Rosa Rugosa hedging and a garden bench/table – beyond the hedge there is an area for parking the car and a grassy bank provides extra space for children to play
